I love Vail. Throughout my entire life it has been a dream of mine to move to Vail where I could enjoy the Vail culture, Vail mountains and the people of Vail. This dream became a reality just over two months ago when I decided to move from a small Midwest town in Illinois to Vail, Colorado.
What has attracted me to Vail from the time I was just a young boy is Vail's culture. Work, to most people in Vail, is fun and exciting which makes it so enjoyable for those visiting and who reside in Vail. There is a positive flow which is addicting and makes you want more. The people of Vail love being with others and outdoors creating a culture of positive-outgoing individuals seeking, not only to please themselves, but others in the process. The people, the enthusiasm and the all around sense of freedom is so overwhelmingly engaging and joyful it will make anyone and everyone want to spend more time in Vail.
Vail Mountain reported 4" of new snow overnight, 8" in the past 48 hours, and 2 FEET of snow over the past week! The skiing conditions are vastly improved from the dry spell earlier this season. All lifts are operating and 98% of the runs are open. The weather service is predicting chances of snow periodically over the next 10 days. Winter is here and we're loving it!
Beaver Creek is reporting 3" of new snow, 6" in the past 48 hours and 18" of snow over the past week. All lifts are running with 97% of the runs open.
Skiers and snowboarders are enjoying Colorado blue skies and fresh snow. After waiting for the weather to cooperate, it appears our usual patterns are back and snowfall is in the forecast. And just in time for the Presidents' Week Holiday.

For the second year in a row, Vail Resorts is again offering the Epic Pass to not only locals but for anyone who wants to ski the five best mountains in the West. For only $579.00 Vail offers unlimited days of skiing with no blackouts at the five mountains they own(Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone, Breckenridge, Heavenly Valley). Most people, when hearing about this incredible deal, will find it hard to believe, but this is the second year and word does get around. Most ski areas sell their unlimited season passes for anywhere from $1,500.00 to $2,000.00 per year, and with daily tickets costing close to $100.00 per day, it only takes 6 days to break even with an Epic Pass.
In today's paper, the CEO announced that, although lift ticket revenue was down by 8.4%, the revenue from season pass sales was up by 14% over last year, due entirely from sales of the Epic Pass. The overall earnings for the publicly traded company were down by 52% from 2008, which was not unexpected due to the economy. The biggest hit came in the lodging side of the business and Vail has announced it plans to offer a lot of new lodging deals for the coming season.
